We have discovered over 2900 scan operators who have worked at the Internet Archive from 2001-2022. In total, they have scanned over 641,282,209 pages. They have worked for 1,107,565 days with an median turnover of 183 days.
This is by no means an exhaustive list, there are likely hundreds of workers and millions of books not represented in our data or not properly credited.
We want to recognize and thank them for their immense contribution to digitization, doing work that is often underpaid and physically taxing. This project and so many other digital humanities projects would not be possible without their work.
